One important thing we need to keep in mind: Just like with GEdit - we need something that starts up fast. Features are nice, but our small, simple utilities need to start up fast, because that sets the impression of the efficiency of the whole desktop.
Reading your post on planet.gnome.org inspired me to put together a simple website for eog. Feel free to do with it as you please.
http://folk.ntnu.no/trondd/eog/
http://folk.ntnu.no/trondd/eog/eog-website.tar.gz
Cheers!

Tuomas is entirely right - startup speed, for an image viewer, is super important. In fact, speed all around is nice.. being able to quickly move in between images. I still use feh as my image viewer because it lets me rapidly move around with the mousewheel. I'd love to have a GTK/GDK based application be able to mimic the quickness of feh.. hopefully that is what eog-ng will turn into. I'll be watching :)
